Final Project Animatic

This is the final animatic. It is pretty much where I wanted it to be, although I will definitely return to polish it up and add in a few details and audio later. I wouldn't mind tacking on another 15-20 seconds of new shots to help with continuity in the fade transition scenes, and a few more acting poses for the dog. That being said, I accomplished what I set out to do by the end of this semester.

Final Project- Dog Animatic Still Images

These are all of the still drawings from the storyboard timed out in a basic animatic; camera moves not included yet. Some additional shots may end up being added at the beginning, and in certain places (when the dog buries the ripped up ball).

Final Project- Schedule

For my final project I will be making an animatic of the storyboards I did for the Story Project. Here is the schedule for the animatic.

November 17th- Have all still images timed out, and begin separating drawings into layers so that they are ready to move around.

November 24th- Finish separating the drawings, and have the first two scenes timed out and moving with camera moves.

December 1st- Scenes 3 and 4 will be timed out with camera moves.

December 8th- Scenes 5 and 6 timed out with camera moves.

December 15th- Add in sound effects, and/or additional music, shading, final adjustments.

Dog Story Premise

Dog is confronted with the presence of a large, unpredictable and utterly malicious rubber ball. As the standoff ensues, Dog must choose to rise above his fears and end his enemy, or become the victim.

Story project week 3

The scene on the top is when the ball quietly approaches the dog's bedroom and slowly opens the door. The dog is awakened, and tries to see what is going on, but the ball retreats.

The bottom scene is the ball trying to scare the dog by watching him and slamming his window closed, although we never see the ball move because of the wind blowing the curtains and blocking the view.

Wednesday, October 19, 2011

This is the scene when the dog first makes contact with the mysterious ball/nemesis that has taken over his yard, and planted itself right in front of the entrance to his dog house. After pondering about his predicament all day long, he finally decides to venture out during the night and approach the ball, and try to figure it out.

Dog Sketches

The drawings at the top of this group are what my dog character will look like in my story. He is a greyhound mixed with something else because he is not quite as tall as a greyhound. I do not have a name for him yet.

Project Ron Saks- Telling a Story

For this project I will be telling the story of a cautious yet curious dog who is suddenly confronted with the arrival of a large, menacing ball emblazoned with the emblem of an evil clown that bounces into the dogs yard from next door. The dog has never ventured into the yard next door, let alone seen over the fence or seen who, or what inhabits this strange place. The dog is challenged with overcoming his fear of the unkown while attempting to fulfill what he thinks is his moral obligation to return the ball to its rightful owner. That is of course if he can even muster the courage to go near this evil clown ball nemesis. If he makes the plunge into this new territory his adventures are only beginning.

Project Hiroshi Hayakawa- Final Panels

The goal of my project was to practice transitioning between drawing for realism and drawing for animation with emphasis on character design. They are arranged from left to right because it is the most logical way to show a step by step, evolutionary process such as this. Each of these drawings was preceded by many gestural sketches. The first drawing of the armadillo is a study of the anatomy, and textural qualities of the animal. The drawing of the football player is a study of the body's gesture or position that I based my character off of. This drawing also takes into account the relationship of the figure to the shoulder padding, which becomes a defining characteristic of the character. The third drawing is the transition to finding the large volumes and shapes of the armadillo, while honing in on the actual design. The final drawing makes small changes to the position of the body and head, as well as adding details (ear hair, and armored scales on the head). This drawing is meant to show how this character might look if this were a still frame image from an animated short film. The absence of color is intentional because the I think that it was unncecessary to include, or worry about, when my purpose clearly was to practice the expansion of my drawing repertoire.

Panel 4- Final Armadillo Character

This is the armadillo football player as he might appear in an animated short film.

Thursday, September 1, 2011

The idea I have for my first project is to create a character for a possible short animation piece. The character will be an armadillo personified as a football player. I was inspired by Hiroshi Hayakawa's animal kirigami armadillo, and watching my younger brother playing in his high school football game. I think there are great possibilities to combine the tough, 'head-smashing' attitude of the football player with the thick, stocky armor, and big claws of the armadillo. I may use this character to develop a short animation piece by the end of the semester.
